Art can be anything imaginable.

Yet, art is always a conduit for the exchange of ideas, passion, and experience.

PLAYS

ATTA

ATTA is short play about adapting to real-time cultural and environmental impacts of colonization and climate change in the Arctic told through two interwoven storylines.  The first is set in the present day on the ice during the spring whaling season off the coast of Utqiaġvik, Alaska.  The second is set the night when Nuliauk, the Iñupiaq Goddess of the Sea, is kidnapped by cursed whaling captain turned ravenous birdman, Kuvit.  The story culminates with the merging of both stories at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean.
COMING HOME

Coming Home is a full-length play about family, the wounds of the past, how we remember and the transformative nature of acceptance.  The story is set in three places: an ER waiting room in real time, the space between now and the next existence, and the past.

POETRY

Picture
"Where I Go When I Go Away."Things We Haven't Said: Sexual Violence Survivors Speak Out." Ed. Erin E Moulton. San Francisco, Zest Books, 2018.

I am honored to have a poem published in this anthology for teen survivors of sexual violence.  There isn't anything else out there like this for adolescents yet sexual violence is something many middle and high school students have experience with.
In this book are stories, poems, letters, essays, vignettes and interviews about childhood sexual violence with survivors.  Until recently, most people didn't want to hear anything about sexual violence.  Now, people are starting to listen.  I am ready to talk, listen and engage with others around this very important issue.  Contact me if you'd like to collaborate.

More poetry can be found on my Projects & Reflections page.
SCREENWRITING
UUMMAN

UUMMAN is both an authentic and fantastically-cinematic adventure in the contemporary and traditional worlds of Iñupiaq culture and community.  The film begins on the shores of the Arctic Ocean in the middle of the 19th century, in the last few moments before the Western colonization of Iñuit communities takes root.

The Iñupiaq sea goddess, Nuliauk, is born, kidnapped and exploited on a timeless Island just out of reach while 150 years of cultural collision spur sudden and drastic change in and off the coast of Utqiagvik, Alaska.  A modern-day whaling crew connects with the world of the sea goddess while its captain grapples with how to move forward in the face of such deep tragedy and loss.  Uumman means heart in Iñupiaq.

PERFORMANCE

I've been performing on stage since I was five years old.

I was Gladys in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  I remember learning how to "bite" people and that it was ok to scream as loud as I possibly could.  I was a talkative and boisterous little girl offstage, often being told to be quiet.  Stage became a place I could feel, say and do things I was discouraged from doing or afraid to do in real life.  I was hooked.

Since then, I've performed classical work, new plays, experimental theater, dance theater, period plays and in film.  In addition to acting on stage, I've sang, recited poetry and supported productions backstage.

I'm most drawn to performance with a social consciousness. Performance that isn't afraid to explore the evolving boundaries between normal and bizarre.  Theater that explores the infinitely perplexing nature of human emotion.  Art that continually questions the nature of existence itself.
